Carol Dweck, a psychologist defined and popularized the concept of growth mindset. We generally put people into categories-intelligent or not intelligent. Commonly people don't understand that having a negative opinion about themselves affects many arenas of life adversely. Their personal relationships, professional success and skill acquisition are profoundly affected.

Therefore, the first thing to understand is that human beings are capable of learning and can improve their lives by doing so. Diligence, perseverance and hard work can change anything in the world.

So, what then is a growth mindset? There are two kinds of mindsets namely, fixed mindset and growth mindset. Our destiny is in our own hands, in our own mindset and thinking.

'You are the product of the choices that you make in life'.

Growth Mindset

The people who believe that they can change through learning and growing are the ones who possess the growth mindset. They believe in their ability to learn and achieve what they want from life and are successful people. They do not believe in just inborn talent and intelligence but work on it to make it better. They take up challenges and achieve success because of their growth mindset. It is said 'What a human mind believes in, it can achieve it'. It's as simple as that so, never have a defeatist attitude; the way you perceive things that is the way they will turn out to be. My article on positivity reiterates this. When we are hopeful, positive and optimistic, we attract all good energy from the universe and combine that with your hard work and zeal to succeed; the results are AMAZING! You WIN!

Fixed Mindset

This type of people are rigid in their outlook; they think 'I'm not a good student', I'm not intelligent, I can't do much in life. Such people then don't put in much effort and don't take up challenges also. They remain passive as they feel they are dumb. They try to justify their failures by blaming something or the other but do not put in more effort.

Teachers can play a significant role in making the students believe in their ability to do the following: Simply three-

Firstly, believe in themselves.

Secondly, work hard determinedly to achieve the set goals.

Thirdly, have a growth mindset that I can learn and do anything successfully!
